Hello, Caen. I hope this letter finds you in good spirits. I write this to you while I am at the Wineport hamlet in Eastern La Noscea awaiting orders along with soldiers from The Maelstrom.

My apologies for having told you last night's news suddenly and in such a haste. I had wanted to speak to you further about it so that you're aware of what I am to do and what should happen. Please note that this information is strictly confidential and no one is to even know of this.

After yourself, Kelvena, and I returned to Ul'dah and I entered my quarters at The Hourglass, 'twas not soon after that I would receive a message from The Immortal Flames. The message read that there was to be a reconoissance at Castrum Occidens and survey their activity. If you've no idea what Castrum Occidens is,'tis a Garlean stronghold that closely neighbors Wineport.

Aside from surveying their activity, we were also to aid The Maelstrom as they infiltrate it from the inside out and basically cut off their communications from the other Garlean strongholds across Eorzea. Should we be successful, it will eventually lead us to another Garlean stronghold, Castrum Meridianum, located in Northern Thanalan. There, The Immortal Flames are to do the same but this will be much more difficult, as this is where their main base of Eorzean operations seem to be located.

I know not when I will return but I hope it will be soon. For now, I have only been given orders to aid The Maelstrom here at Occidens and soon after, the paladins that have been tasked to undertake this mission should be able to return home. I would like to say that this sounds relatively simple in context, but 'tis the Garleans we deal with here. I am sure, with absolute certainty, that this will be aught but. I am bound by oath as a Paladin to avoid violence and bloodshed at all costs but with what we are to contend with, I fear violence will be nigh inevitable.

Please worry not about me. At least try to. I've said I would return and return I shall. Kelvena will be bound for Coerthas today, mayhap you can join her and Kehda on her journey and training. Anyroad, we are now being given orders to make way towards Occidens so I must end it here.
